Aloha, I’m Jeanne, and I live on Hawaii Island’s Kohala Coast. I started visiting the islands of Hawaii in 1998 and have always loved how many opportunities there are to experience Native Hawaiian and “local” culture — the distinctive blend of Hawaiian, Japanese, Chinese, Filipino, Korean, Portuguese and Puerto Rican customs that arose during the plantation era. Our Best Places to Visit on Oahu are a good example of that rich history and diversity. Side benefit: I now do a lot of my shopping for gifts at hula festivals, craft fairs and farmers markets, where the food also tends to be delicious and well-priced. Hope to see you there!
