If you’re a friend I met traveling, and you come to Northern California without visiting me in Monterey, it’s your loss — and a big one. Because things like Big Sur redwoods, Carmel Valley wine tasting rooms and Fort Ord National Monument dunes are required viewing, particularly for travelers. And I’ve got insider angles on spots like those, as well as the Monterey Bay Aquarium and Point Lobos State Natural Reserve, and a few decent pitstops for fish tacos along the way.
I’m lucky to have lived on various continents, and I feel at least as lucky to eventually come back to Monterey with a fresh appetite for its adventures. That’s a big reason why I enjoy writing for visitors with Local Getaways. I also enjoy generating upcoming event lists, in a similar way I like revisiting reasons I love the Original Bay Area. (Sorry S.F., it’s true.) Besides, as a self-anointed unofficial ambassador for the area, it feels like my duty to add inspiration to your visit, just in case it comes in handy. Check out my monthly things to do below to see the latest things I’ve discovered.
